Dubuque Museum of Art - 2017 DuMA Biennial Show

Every two years the Dubuque Museum of Art organizes a highly-competitive exhibition titled "The DuMA Biennial". I was fortunate to be chosen into this years show with a painting from my bee series to promote bee awareness, "Three Poppies for the Queen lll" (35' x 35" x 2"- mixed-media oils on panel, the third of a typtic). Showing from June 2nd - August 20th, 2017.

This years juror, Amanda C.Burdan, associate curator of the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania was quoted to say, "In the nearly 600 works submitted (where only 208 were chosen) to the biennial, some very distant themes came to the fore...Some are universal humanistic issues, the environment, the life cycle and other fears. From an artistic standpoint there are convergences as well. Several of the works cause the viewer to look twice and to question exactly what were looking at in terms of media & technique."

The Dubuque Museum of Art (DuMA), founded in 1874 and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums in 2004, is Iowa’s oldest cultural institution. Named a national affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution in 2016, DuMA’s mission is to excite, engage and serve diverse communities within the Tri-State area through our collections, exhibitions and educational programs.
